MOMENTO MORI, CENTRO CULTURAL ARTE CONTEMPORANEO, MEXICO CITY, MEXICO, 1986 - 1987
November 1986 - January 1987
A very special cross section of prominent contemporary artists offered a fresh view of a subject - 'memento mori' - that has, from the beginning of created art, absorbed man at his most humble and most transcendent. The artists that were on display come to terms with death - both real and figurative - in a genuinely contemplative and spiritual manner. By presenting them in a historical context, MOMENTO MORI highlighted their individual gifts and, at the same time, offered an overview that was reflective, disturbing, and, in its implications for us all, inescapable.
Gormley presented UNTITLED [SLEEPING FIGURE] (1983).
