EDGE OF THE SEAT: THE ARTIST'S CHAIR, LARGE GLASS, LONDON, ENGLAND, 2014
13 March - 14 June 2014
CHAIR (1987-88), an early work by Antony Gormley, was included in the group exhibition EDGE OF THE SEAT: THE ARTIST'S CHAIR. A staple of the studio, artists since Van Gogh have frequently seen in their chairs an element of themselves. Whether read as self-portraiture or formal, this exhibition looked at the ways a range of contemporary artists have acquisitioned, customised, or re-created the chair in their practice.
The exhibition also included works by Phyllida Barlow, Susan Collis, Adam Colton, Dorothy Cross, Jimmie Durham, Martino Gamper, Jana Sterbak and Richard Wentworth.
