This exhibition featured three works: SUBLIMATE IV (2004), UNFORM I (2004) and FIX I (2004). 

On CERTAIN MADE PLACES, Gormley has said: 

'How do we use the legacy and rationality of Modernism to evoke contemporary feeling? Can we use the grid that is implicit in Mondrian, in urban structures, in pixels, in all the ways in which our lives are held by the geometries of organised space, to evoke an inner state: what it feels like to be alive? Each of these works starts with an event. SUBLIMATE was made from a mould of my body taken between 14:08 and 15:32 hours on the 30 May, 1997. FIX from a mould made between 11:05 and 12:37 on 9 April 2002. UNFORM from one made between 10:16 and 12:25 on 16 June 2004. These voids were then translated into masses made up of four different sizes of steel block that all relate to a basic human measurement: the inch or 12.5 mm. I have used parametric construction to evolve matrices that are not anatomical but are nevertheless organic. There are 152 potential positions of the smallest block in relation to the next biggest block and a total of 51,552,462,208 possible configurations of the four blocks. A work can have up to 500 blocks, so you can see how complexity emerges from simple forms and relationships! Each work comes from the indexical impression of a particular time but now relates to a specific place, and is installed in relation to the orthogonal dictates of the gallery. Each one indicates a human space in space; my body, your body, anybody.'
