SPACE: NOW AND THEN, ART AND ARCHITECTURE, FUNDAMENT FOUNDATION, AABE FABRIEKEN, TILBURG, NETHERLANDS, 2005
28 August - 23 October 2005
SPACE: NOW AND THEN was an exhibition about the relationship between the visual arts and architecture. The exhibition on the one hand resulted from the intention to investigate a topical development in contemporary art at a moment at which the times were asking for it, and on the other hand, from the problems with respect to what was the designated use of the location of the exhibition, the former AaBe Fabrieken in Tilburg. For more than sixty-fivee years, from 1930 to 1997, the AaBe factories for woollen blankets and textiles in Tilburg, formed the everyday habitat of thousands of people. Although these factories had only been closed for less than ten years, this type of architecture had almost been erased from the collective memory. These buildings were thus opened to the public on this unique occasion to serve as a typical model for a specific architecture from the 20th century. The nine works which made up this exhibition explored the social and psychological aspects of manmade space.
This exhibition featured an installation of Gormley's DOMAIN FIELD (2003).
