NEW SCULPTURE, RIVERSIDE STUDIOS, LONDON, ENGLAND, 1984
12 September - 07 October 1984
The first solo exhibition in the UK since the Whitechapel show in 1981, this exhibition includes works such as HOME (1984), OUT OF THIS WORLD (1983-84), THE BEGINNING THE MIDDLE THE END (1983-84), MIND (1983-84), TREE (1984) and CHROMOSOME (1984). Walking into the gallery, visitors were confronted by an enormous lead-encased cloud, which in spite of its massiveness and overbearing weight, maintained a sense of the cloud's insubstantiality and refusal to be trapped into form. Further in, a life-sized figure placed a tentative foot forward, on his head a crouching clay incubus or conscience, on the floor - projected as a long metallic shadow - another possible extension of the main figure's personality.
The exhibition toured to Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff from 24 November - 21 December 1984.
