Antony Gormley

INSIDE THE INSIDE, XAVIER HUFKENS, BRUSSELS, BELGIUM, 1996

08 June - 14 September 1996

An exhibition of new work, including: REACH I (1996), TEST I (1996), VIEW I (1996), CONCENTRATE I (1996), COMPOUND I (1996) and CONSTRUCT I (1996). This exhibition marked the first time that Gormley presented multiple cast iron works, a departure from the lead bodycases which dominated many of the past exhibitions. These solid iron casts show the intimate body taken directly from a mould that was mediated only through a thin layer of clingfilm. In the sequence of four empty rooms, these bodies were exhibited horizontally in various extended positions, floating just above the floor - belying their weight.
