Antony Gormley

DRAWN, WHITE CUBE, LONDON, ENGLAND, 2000

08 September - 14 October 2000

DRAWN (2000), a new work by Gormley conceived for White Cube, is comprised of eight cast iron bodyforms in the same pose, installed in the corners of the exhibition space in different orientations. This installation explored his obsession with the relationship between the human body and architecture, making the spaces of the constructed world 'felt' in unusual confrontational ways. These figures worked in dialogue with their architectural environment to explore the tension between the body's ability to express freedom through extension, and architecture's compulsion to contain.
