The QUANTUM VOID is a continuation of the QUANTUM CLOUD series, only - rather than having the body-zone indicated by condensation of elements - the body-zone is left void and surrounded by a minimal penumbra of trajectories that indicate an energy field.
The QUANTUM VOID series is an attempt to evoke the energy-mass relationship identified in the general theory of relativity in material terms. We know that generally, mass is missing from the apparent universe, and the idea of identifying a human space in space at large by a field of intersecting rhizomic trajectories as physical replication of physical bodies in space. That is my primary interest, and also to interrogate the mass of traditional sculpture by suggesting its replacement by a force field or energy field. The idea here is to put these two works, FEELING MATERIAL and QUANTUM VOID, into some dynamic. FEELING MATERIAL rotates on a signal point as it reacts to the wind currents around it; QUANTUM VOID invites circumnavigation and in some way, the projection of the viewer into its void interior human space. Both works are attempting to identify potential rather than representing a particular person or any form of narrative. The idea is to catalyse space in such a way that the viewer's presence in both space and time is itself foregrounded.
