TIME HORIZON tests the proposal of ANOTHER PLACE in a site of ancient human habitation: 100 bodyforms distributed over 8.5 hectares of Roman remains, including a forum, amphitheatre, acropolis and three thousand olive trees near Catanzaro, Southern Italy.

The work takes its datum level at 1.80 metres above the horizontal level of the excavated forum. This is the mean present-day level of the earth's surface, calculated in relation to this physical memory of the past.

The works are extended over the field and, whether buried up to their chins or exposed on 2.75-metre-high plinths, maintain a consistent level.

The works face in all directions, never each other. As with ANOTHER PLACE and EVENT HORIZON, the viewer is implicated in a field effect, but here, the earth level replaces the rising tide.

I think of this as a form of acupuncture, activating the living human time of the viewer, the biological time of the trees and the geological time of the earth, using the industrial time of mechanical reproduction.
