MODEL was made in direct response to the space of the South Galleries at White Cube Bermondsey. The work takes as its premise art's attempt to interpret, as much as mirror the world, and uses the model as a diagrammatic vehicle to examine the way that sculpture both exists in and contains space. Whether massive or void, MODEL re-imagines the human body both as a space and an object, a fixed location and an extension, a material thing and the site of emotion and thought.

One enters the work through a 'foot' and journeys through its inter-connected internal chambers. It demands that we adjust our pace and bend our bodies to its awkward yet absolute geometry. The experience of this analogy for the 'dark interior of the body' is guided by anticipation and memory and the direct and indirect light which penetrates the structure and leads one on, as if through a labyrinth.
