The 2008 pavilion for Kivik Art Centre, entitled A SCULPTURE FOR THE SUBJECTIVE EXPERIENCE OF ARCHITECTURE, was designed by David Chipperfield and Antony Gormley. The pavilion, which was constructed in two months, is a sculpture entirely in concrete. Formed of three interlocking 100 metre-cubed volumes, the pavilion offers the visitor three different ways of experiencing the landscape around Kivik. 'The Cave' offers the enclosed feeling of being in the dark forest; 'The Stage' is a horizontal volume open to the landscape, where one looks out but is also exposed; and 'The Tower' ends in a platform 18 metres above the ground, where one is rewarded with spectacular views towards the Baltic Sea.

The annual Kivik Pavilion is a project that intends to combine architecture with art and design. Fundamental issues of the Kivik Pavilions Project are the interaction with the exceptional local landscape, as well as the cooperation with industries in the region.
